How this time was found · यह समय कैसे निकाला गया

Lakshmi Puja is done in pradosh, the first 2 h 24 min after sunset, on the evening that Kartika Amavasya touches it, and best while the steady sign Vrishabha is rising (sthira lagna, so that what is invited stays). We computed Mangalore's own sunset, the exact minutes Amavasya runs, and the minutes Vrishabha rises there (sidereal, Lahiri), and printed where all three overlap. Dhanteras uses the same test with Krishna Trayodashi; Karva Chauth is the day Krishna Chaturthi is running at Mangalore's moonrise.

Printed almanacs can differ from this by a few minutes: some use a longer pradosh, some a different sunset. If your temple announces a different time, follow your temple. Nothing here asks you to buy or do anything beyond the puja itself.
